Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Mapdie — the Mapdie iOS app and the website at mapdie.com (together, the “Service”), operated by the individual operator of Mapdie (“we”, “us”, or “our”) — collects, uses, and protects your information. The short version: we collect what the Service needs to work, we do not sell your personal data, and there is no third-party advertising.
1. Information we collect
Account information. Mapdie uses Sign in with Apple as its only sign-in method. When you sign in, we receive your name and email address from Apple. In the app you can add a username handle, a bio, a profile picture (uploaded avatars are stored on our servers), and a profile visibility setting.
Content you create. Maps and pins — including place names, coordinates, notes, and photos of venues (venue photos are served from Google’s content delivery network) — and messages, including text, shared maps, pins, and places, and photo attachments.
Social activity. Who you follow, who follows you, your conversations (one-to-one and group), message requests, and any blocks or reports you make.
Usage events. When you are signed in, we record usage events such as map views and impressions. These power creator statistics and recommendations.
Push notification tokens. If you enable push notifications, we store your device token on our servers so we can deliver notifications.
Location. The iOS app uses when-in-use location permission to center the map on where you are. We do not track your location in the background. Your last coordinate may be cached on your device.
2. How we use your information
- to provide the Service: your maps, pins, messages, and profile;
- to show your content to others according to the visibility you choose (public, followers, or message recipients);
- to power creator statistics and recommendations from signed-in usage events;
- to deliver push notifications about social activity and messages;
- to keep the Service safe through content moderation and enforcement of our Terms of Service;
- to respond when you contact support.
3. Automated content moderation
Uploaded profile pictures and photo attachments in messages are scanned by automated moderation systems for inappropriate content. We also use automated content filters alongside human review of reported content. Violations can lead to content removal, account strikes, or suspension.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers — the Service has no third-party advertising. Your information is shared only in these cases:
- With other users, according to your choices: public maps and profiles are visible to anyone, followers-only content is visible to your followers, and messages are visible to their recipients.
- With search engines. A map you set to public has a public web page on mapdie.com, and those pages are open to search engines. A public map — its title, description, places, addresses, notes and the creator name shown on it — can therefore appear in Google and other search results, and may stay in their caches for a while after you change it. Maps set to private or followers-only are never listed or indexed. If you would rather a map not be findable this way, set its visibility to private in the app.
- With service providers that host the Service on our behalf. Our database is hosted on MongoDB Atlas, a cloud-hosted database service. Apple delivers push notifications to your device.
- If required by law, such as in response to a valid legal request.
5. Data retention
Your account data and content are kept while your account is active. Raw usage events (such as map views and impressions) are retained for 30 days; aggregated rollups derived from them are kept longer to power long-term statistics. When you delete your account, your data is handled as described in Section 6.
6. Account deletion
You can request deletion of your account in the app under Settings. Your account is immediately deactivated and hidden from other users, Mapdie’s access to your Sign in with Apple account is revoked, and your data is permanently deleted within approximately 30 days. During that window you can restore your account by signing in with Apple again, or by contacting [email protected]. When deletion completes, your profile, maps, pins, photos and the text of your messages are erased. The only exception is content that another user reported, which we keep as evidence for the moderation decision it belongs to. Once deletion completes, your data cannot be recovered.
7. Children's privacy
Mapdie is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 (or older where required by local law or the Apple App Store) to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
8. Your rights and choices
- Profile visibility: set your profile to public or private, and choose the visibility of each map.
- Messaging: accept or decline message requests from people you don’t follow, and block users at any time.
- Location: location access is optional and controlled through iOS Settings.
- Notifications: configure notification categories in the app or disable push notifications entirely.
- Access and deletion: edit your profile in the app, and delete your account as described in Section 6. For other requests about your data, email [email protected].
Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights over your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it. We honor such requests sent to the support address above.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and take reasonable steps to notify you, such as a notice in the app.
